About Us
Our Mission
Our mission is to raise funds that support adults living with Cystic Fibrosis. Physical fitness is an important aspect of all lives but especially those living with CF, a life-threatening disease. Our ultimate goal is to help as many as possible by raising funds through this event.
Our Goal
We support the Finding Hope Foundation and the Ottawa Hospital Foundation in support of the cystic fibrosis patient care and treatment program. Inspired by Emilie Joinette, a young woman who dedicated much of her life to inspire and advocate for the cystic fibrosis community. She loved staying active with a variety of sports including soccer, hockey, swimming, cheerleading, and dance to name a few. She was a strong believer of helping others and worked tirelessly to help raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Organ Donor and Transplant Association and the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation. She was often caught saying "you just do what you have to do". Words she really lived by. Survivor of two double lung transplants, she sadly lost her battle to CF in December 2009 at the young age of 22 years. Thus the Emilie Joinette Inspirational fund was created. This fund was created to support the development of a physical fitness patient program for the Ottawa Hospital Adult CF Clinic.
Top Rock Adult Performance Troupe is an elite dance team founded by the director of Top Rock Dance and Fitness, Julie Joinette. This troupe is dedicated to adult dancers wanting to continue dancing at a higher level and pursue their passion for dance and performing.
Top Rock is an Ottawa dance troupe that offers dancers a medium to continue to learn from each other as well as learn from great choreographers and instructors. Dancers are able to choose from two different professional troupes, Elite and Exhibition, that will cross train in some respects and also perform together, building life-long skills and relationships. It is also bringing dance and fitness classes to the general public, helping everyone stay active and keep in shape the fun way.
Top Rock is dedicated to helping the community by offering TRAPT shows and performances for charitable events. We found ourselves wanting to help in some way during this pandemic and so the idea to run an online movement marathon was created. We began sharing ideas and thoughts on how this could work. We choose to support the Finding Hope Foundation, as it supports a cause that is dear to our hearts, The Ottawa Hospital Adult CF Clinic. In memory of Emilie Joinette, we will move, dance and stay active to raise funds for this great cause. We will enjoy musicians, dancers and performers who will entertain us with their talent, as Emilie once did.
The Health Charities we are Benefitting
Cystic Fibrosis Canada and The Ottawa Hospital – Adult Cystic Fibrosis Clinic
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. It is a progressive and life-shortening disease that primarily impacts the respiratory and digestive systems. There is no cure. Affected persons require life-long specialized treatment and care from a multidisciplinary team of specialists and must follow a strict daily regimen of therapy and treatment. Approximately, one in 25 Canadians carry an abnormal version of the gene responsible for causing cystic fibrosis. Over 4,000 Canadians with cystic fibrosis attend specialized Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Clinics.
